Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in Colorado tend to be more challenging than the national average, so if you're not from around here don't forget that rivers here are not as easy as elsewhere. The put-in is not too far from Durango, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking in this general area you'll find lots of paddling rivers. Getting some good exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors are great reasons to come. The wonderful Colorado scenery and
the cool fresh water will make you feel great. There are plenty of hotels here if you want to spend a night, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp. The to Animas River stretch is
the only paddling stretch along Canyon Creek. This section of Canyon Creek in Colorado is 3 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class V+ section. The beautiful San Juan Mountains scenery is an added bonus. This is a short paddling stretch so it's not like you're gonna spend hours on the river in one stretch.

are typically in the 30's while the cold winter nights at Canyon Creek are in the 0's. Canyon Creek is pretty arid mostly; the wettest month of the year is frequently August, that's the one that rains the most while June is regularly the driest month.
