Colorado whitewater, Cebolla River

Gunnison county, Highway 149 to Blue Mesa Reservoir section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.

CLASS II     10 miles
The scenic beauty of Gunnison County and the cool fresh water make the trip here worthwhile. The Highway 149 to Blue Mesa Reservoir section of Cebolla River in Gunnison County is 10 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class II section of whitewater. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way there are lots of good rivers for that around here. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in Colorado are harder
than the national norm, so don't forget that many of the rivers here are not very forgiving. There are a few other stretches in this river system that can be paddled as well. Getting your paddling muscles activated and just
hanging out with mother nature are sure to keep you coming back for more. If you have the time you can make this a two day trip, so pack your camp stove. The starting location is a reasonable drive from Montrose, as you can see on the road map further down. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but do book a room
before you come because it is a very popular destination.
