The sections for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in Colorado are often more challenging than in other states, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that rivers here are less forgiving. A good workout and a chance to spend some time outdoors will make you glad you came. This section of Cimarron River in Gunnison / Montrose County is 10.2 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class V+ section. The San Juan and Jemez Mountains scenery     is wonderful. There are some good sections to paddle in this river system, the Big Cimarron Campground to Cimarron Road bridge section is one of them. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground. If you hurry you can run this stretch in a day but why not make it an overnighter, so why not pack your sleeping bag too. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, this is an area with plenty of rivers for that. Briefly about the general area: Cimarron River gets very little precipitation; during the month of September you get the most rain around here, and the driest month of the year is February. For the period of the   warmest time of the year, highs commonly are in the 80's at Cimarron River with overnight lows in the 50's. The wintertime comes with highs in the 30's, and night lows all through the wintertime for Cimarron River tend to be in the 10's.
