This section of Cimarron River is 10.2 miles long and is a class V+ section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. Getting a good workout and just being out on the river for a while will have you coming back for more. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby. The beauty of the San Juan Mountains is a great plus for this river. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, there are lots of good rivers for that around here. If you hurry you can run this stretch in a day but why not make it an overnighter,
so why not pack your camping stuff too. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in Colorado is often more difficult than elsewhere, so don't forget that a lot of the rivers here are not suitable for beginners. The beautiful scenery of Colorado and the beautiful way the water current moves
down the stream have people coming here. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. There are a few other stretches in this river system that can be paddled as well.
Briefly about the general area: Summertime highs at Cimarron River commonly tend to be in the 80's. Summer nighttime lows sink down to the 50's. Through the wintertime the highs are commonly in the 30's with temperatures at Cimarron River dipping down into the 10's during winter nights. Cimarron
