This section of Cimarron River in Gunnison / Montrose County is 10.2 miles long and is a class V+ section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way this area has a large number of paddling places. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby. If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside Colorado you might find the rivers here a     bit more challenging, so if you're not from around here don't forget that many runs in this state are not easy. This section has enough mileage for an overnight trip, so pack your camp stove. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. This is one of a small number of paddling sections in this river system, there are a few others too. The beautiful San Juan and Jemez Mountains scenery is an added bonus. A good workout and a chance to spend some time outdoors have people coming from far and near. Briefly about the general area: Through the summer highs here at Cimarron River reach the 80's with overnight lows in the 50's. Daytime highs through the winter are in the 30's, and after the sun is down   all through the winter temperatures at Cimarron River drop into the 10's. It is very waterless here at Cimarron River generally; the month of September is the wettest with most of the rain, and the driest of the months is February.
