Colorado whitewater - Colorado River, Park Range, Grand County
Grand
county,
Hot Sulphur Springs to Highway 40 bridge section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.
CLASS IV 3 miles
This section of Colorado River in Grand County is 3 miles long and is a class IV section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. The sections for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in Colorado are often more challenging than in other states, so better not forget that many of the rivers here are not very forgiving. The nature scenery of Grand County and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water are reasons enough to come here and paddle. The wild scenery of the Park Range is great. There are some good sections to paddle in this river system,
the Hot Sulphur Springs to Highway 40 bridge section is one of them. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. This stretch is short so
you'd better be prepared to walk your kayak back to put-in a few times. If you're coming from Silverthorne it's not a long drive at all to the put-in location, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking there are lots of good rivers for that around here. Getting some good exercise and spending some quality time in nature have people coming from far and near.
