Colorado whitewater - Colorado River, Park Range, Grand County

Grand county, Hot Sulphur Springs to Highway 40 bridge section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.

CLASS IV     3 miles
The Hot Sulphur Springs to Highway 40 bridge section of Colorado River in Colorado is 3 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class IV section of whitewater. The average Colorado whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be harder to run than those in other states, so you'd better keep in mind that quite a few of the sections here are not easy. The put-in location is a short drive from Silverthorne, as you can see on the road map further down. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but do book a room
before you come because it is a very popular destination. The wonderful Colorado scenery and the playfulness of the water are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground. Great exercise and spending some quality
time in nature are great reasons to come. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way this is an area with plenty of rivers for that. The beautiful Park Range scenery is an added bonus. There are a few other stretches in this river system that can be paddled as well. This stretch is short so no need to bring snacks.

Briefly about the general area:
All through the summer highs here at Colorado River get into the 80's with night lows in the 40's. Throughout the wintertime the highs are ordinarily in the 20's, and nighttime

lows through the wintertime for Colorado River tend to be in the-10's. Hiking along the Sulfur Trail is great fun.
Colorado River is a location that is relatively dehydrated usually; of all the months in a year August is the one with the most rain, and February meanwhile is the driest month.
