Colorado whitewater - Colorado River, Park Range, Grand County

Grand county, Gore Canyon section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.

CLASS IV-V     9.5 miles
This section of Colorado River is 9.5 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class IV-V section. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in Colorado is often tougher than elsewhere, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that many of the sections here are not safe for beginners. This section is long enough to enjoy a good non stop paddle, you can easily run it on an afternoon. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance
then no problem but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. Great exercise and just being out on the river for a while are great attractions for lots of people. The river winds through the Park Range and you get great scenery. You might be into
whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, this is an area with plenty of places for that. There are a few other stretches in this river system that can be paddled as well. The wonderful Colorado scenery and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. The starting location is a short drive from Edwards, as you can see on the road map further down.
