The Gore Canyon section of Colorado River in Grand County is 9.5 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class IV-V section. The natural beauty of Colorado and the water flowing gracefully down Colorado River make the trip here worthwhile. If you've been out of state whitewater rafting and kayaking you might find the rivers here more demanding, so better not forget that many of the rivers here are not very forgiving. This     river system has a few good paddling stretches and the Gore Canyon section is one of them. This is a pretty decent length section, suitable for an afternoon trip. There are some good hotels near the river, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. Getting a good workout and just being out on the river for a while will make you glad you came. The wild scenery of the Park Range is great. There's camping available near Colorado River. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking in this general area you'll find lots of paddling rivers. At Colorado River you don’t see much precipitation; the month of July is the wettest with most of the rain, and the driest of the months is February.
