The Gore Canyon section of Colorado River in Grand County is 9.5 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class IV-V section. The average whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be a bit harder to master in this state than those in other states, so you'd better keep in mind that rivers here are not as easy as elsewhere. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. There are some good stretches to paddle in this river system,
the Gore Canyon stretch is one of them. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. The scenic beauty of Colorado and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. Whitewater paddling here in the
Park Range is a great experience. A good workout and just being out on the river for a while have a lot of people coming here. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way in this general area you'll find lots of paddling spots. This stretch is mid length, suitable for an afternoon trip. The starting point is not too far from Edwards, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page.

you don’t see much rain; July is when you get the most rain here while February is the month with the least amount of precipitation. Through the long summer days here at Colorado River, high temperatures regularly reach the 70's with nighttime lows in the 40's. Daytime highs during the wintertime are in the 30's; after the sun is down all through the wintertime temperatures at Colorado River dip into the 0's.
