The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in Colorado are often tougher than in other states, so if you're not from around here don't forget that the rivers in this state are less manageable. The scenic beauty of Colorado and the cool fresh water will make you feel great. This stretch of Crystal River is 3 miles long and has been rated as a class III-IV(V) section by American Whitewater. There are so many sections to paddle in this river system, the Crystal Mill Falls to Crystal Gorge section is just one of many. Not too many hotels nearby,
you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. This is a somewhat short section so better bring some good walking shoes. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, around here
you'll find a large number of good rivers. The campgrounds here at Crystal River are pretty good.
Briefly about the general area: A glorious location to stop at near Crystal River is Crystal Canyon; Chimneys of Treasure Mountain is something you shouldn't miss since you're here. Crystal River is a location that is rather waterless regularly; the month with most of the rain is August; the driest month of the year is February. At Crystal River during the summer months highs are in the 70's. For the period of the moonlight hours it's usually
in the 40's. During the wintertime the highs are typically in the 30's, and after the sun is down through the winter temperatures at Crystal River descend into the-10's.
