The wonderful Gunnison County scenery and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water attract people from near and far. The Road to Crystal to Beaver Lake section of Crystal River in Colorado is 1.8 miles long and is a class V+ section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. There are plenty of other stretches in this river system that can be paddled as well. The average Colorado whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be a bit harder to master than those in other states, so keep in mind that many runs in this state are not easy. Getting your
paddling muscles activated and just hanging out with mother nature will make you glad you came. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground.
This is a bit of a short stretch so it's not like you're gonna spend hours on the river in one stretch. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way there are lots of good rivers for that around here.
Briefly about the general area: Crystal River gets very little rain; August is the month that gets the most rain while February is the month with the least amount of precipitation. For the period of the summertime months, highs mostly are in the 70's at Crystal River while night lows are usually in
the 40's. The wintertime comes with highs in the 30's; night lows in the-10's for Crystal River. Mud Gulch is in the neighborhood of Crystal River and is a nice site.
