The Dove Creek Pump Station to Slickrock section of Dolores River in Colorado is 28 miles long and has been rated as a class II-III+(IV) section by American Whitewater. The wonderful Dolores/Montrose/San Miguel County scenery and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream make the trip here worthwhile. If you've been out of state whitewater rafting and kayaking you might find the rivers here more demanding, so keep in mind that many runs in this state are not easy. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way in
this general area you won't find many other paddling places. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the
great campgrounds nearby. There are some good sections to paddle in this river system, the Dove Creek Pump Station to Slickrock section is one of them. Getting your paddling muscles activated and just being out on the river for a while have a lot of people coming here.
