Gateway to Colorado River section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.
CLASS II+(IV) 30 miles
The wonderful Colorado scenery and the cool fresh water attract people from near and far. A stretch this long is of course too much for a one day trip, so better bring your camping gear along. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way this is an area with not too many other spots for that. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground. This section of Dolores River in Mesa County is 30 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class II+(IV) section. The Gateway to Colorado
River stretch is one of a few paddling stretches in this river system. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. Whitewater rafting and kayaking
in Colorado is often more difficult than elsewhere, so better not forget that a large number of rivers in this state are not easy.
