CLASS IV 0.75 miles
The scenic beauty of Colorado and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water will make you feel great. This stretch of East River in Colorado is 0.75 miles long and it is classified as a class IV section by American Whitewater. This section is very short so you'd better be prepared to walk your kayak back to put-in a few times. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. East River doesn't have a lot of paddling sections, the Gothic Bridge to above Stupid Falls section is the only one. If you'll be staying in a hotel you're in
luck, lodging is available very near the river, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in Colorado is often more difficult than elsewhere, so if you're not from around here don't forget that lots of rivers here are not for beginners.
You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, this is an area with plenty of spots for that. Getting your paddling muscles activated and just being out on the river for a while have people coming from far and near.
Briefly about the general area: Judd Falls is always fun to check out, and lovely scenery and fine skiing is what you obtain at Crested Butte. East River is right by the Trail Riders Trail. Summer at East River comes with high temperatures in the 70's, and during summer nights temperatures are in the 40's.
Daytime highs through the winter are in the 30's with winter lows in the-10's overnight here at East River. Around East River you don’t get a lot of rainfall; the wettest month of the year is commonly August, that's the one that rains the most while February is the month with the least amount of precipitation.
