Routt
county,
2 mi above Mad Creek to Mad Creek section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.
CLASS I-II 2 miles
This section of Elk River is 2 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class I-II section. The natural beauty of Colorado and the cool fresh water beats anything. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in Colorado tend to be more challenging than the national average, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that a large number of rivers in this state are not easy. This section is quite short so you'll have to walk back to the start over and over. Great exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors are sure to keep you coming back for
more. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. The Park Range scenery is wonderful. There are a few other stretches in this river system that can be paddled as well. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this is an area with not too many other rivers for that.
No shortage of good hotels, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination.
