The wonderful Routt County scenery and the playfulness of the water have people coming here. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this area has a pretty small number of paddling places. A good workout and a chance to spend some time outdoors are great reasons to come. This section is long enough to enjoy a good     non stop paddle, it's perfect for a one day trip. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside Colorado you might find the rivers here a bit more challenging, so you'd better keep in mind that rivers here are not as easy as elsewhere. There are some good stretches to paddle in this river system, the Box Canyon Campground to Glen Eden Bridge stretch is one of them. Whitewater paddling here in the Park Range is a great experience. Briefly about the general area: Be careful coming to the Park Range, you might not ever want to go back home again. At Elk River you don’t see much rain; most of the snow falls all through December, and the driest month is February. While you're here at Elk River you can take a hike along the Coulton Creek Trail, and if the weather is   nice, you can go for a hike along the Chilton Trail. During the months of summer at Elk River temperatures are regularly in the 80's. When the night sets in temperatures plunge down into the 40's.
