  The Box Canyon Campground to Glen Eden Bridge stretch of Elk River in Colorado is 8 miles long and has been rated as a class III section by American Whitewater. The beautiful scenery of Colorado and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water will make you feel great. Getting a good workout and spending some quality time in nature have a lot of people coming here. On this section you do get some distance, you can easily run it on an afternoon. Whitewater paddling here in the Park Range is a great experience. This is one of a small number of paddling stretches
    in this river system, there are a few others too. The campgrounds here at Elk River are pretty good. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, this area has a pretty small number of paddling rivers. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away
from the river if you want to stay the night, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in Colorado are often tougher than in other states, so if you're not from around here don't forget that lots of rivers here are not for beginners.

If you fancy the outdoors you'll fancy it here in the Park Range. Elk River is pretty waterless usually; December is the wettest month with most snow; the driest of the months is February.
Hiking
 
along the Coulton Creek Trail is glorious fun, and you can have a good hiking adventure along the Chilton Trail. Summer brings highs in the 80's to Elk River. Once the sun is down it sinks down to the 40's. Daytime highs through the wintertime are in the 20's with temperatures at Elk River dipping down into the 0's through winter nights.
