The nature scenery of Routt County and the water flowing gracefully down Elk River are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. The Box Canyon Campground to Glen Eden Bridge section of Elk River is 8 miles long and has been rated as a class III section by American Whitewater. The beautiful Park Range scenery is an added bonus. The nearby hotels are a     bit away from the river, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. There's camping available near Elk River. A bit of exercise and spending some quality time in nature will have you coming back for more. This is a pretty decent length section, it's perfect for a one day trip. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this area has a pretty small number of paddling spots. The Box Canyon Campground to Glen Eden Bridge section is one of a few paddling sections in this river system. Briefly about the general area: There's nice hiking along the Coulton Creek Trail, and hiking is a popular thing to do around Elk River; Chilton Trail is a good local trail. Elk River gets very little rain; the month of December is the wettest with most of the snow, and February is the month with the least moisture.   Summertime highs at Elk River generally tend to be in the 80's; through summer nights temperatures are in the 40's. The cold days of the winter come with highs in the 20's with winter lows in the 0's overnight here at Elk River. Yeah, come up here to the Park Range for a good time.
