This section of Fryingpan River in Colorado is 5.7 miles long and it is classified as a class IV-V section by American Whitewater. The starting location is a short drive from Edwards, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state is often more difficult than elsewhere, so if you're not from around here don't forget that many runs in this state are not easy. Getting your paddling muscles activated and just hanging out with mother nature have a lot of people coming here. This is the only paddling
stretch along Fryingpan River. This stretch is mid length, suitable for an afternoon trip. The scenic beauty of Eagle County and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water make the trip here worthwhile. The beautiful Sawatch Range scenery is an added bonus. Not too many hotels
nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way around here you'll find a large number of good spots. There's camping available near Fryingpan River.
Briefly about the general area: You'll really wish for more hours in a day to enjoy all the exciting stuff in the Sawatch Range. There are great sites to look at along the Sawyer Lake Trail. Going for a hike on the Chapman Trail is always a great adventure,
and close by you hit upon fine places like Lime Creek Canyon. High temperatures at Fryingpan River throughout the warm days of summer are in the 80's while night lows are usually in the 40's. Through the winter this place gets highs in the 30's, and after the sun is down through
the wintertime temperatures at Fryingpan River sink into the 0's. Fryingpan River is pretty arid mostly; during July this area sees the most rain, and February is the month with the least moisture.
