The scenic beauty of Fremont County and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water beats anything. If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside Colorado you might find the rivers here a bit more challenging, so you'd better keep in mind that quite a few of the sections here are not easy. This stretch of Grape Creek is 15 miles long and is a class IV+ section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. A good workout and a chance to spend some time outdoors are sure to keep you coming back for more. This section has enough mileage for an overnight
trip, so pack your camping stuff. There's camping available near Grape Creek. There are no other sections to paddle along Grape Creek than the Bear Gulch to Canon City section. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but if you don’t have reservations
you might end up sleeping in your car. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way this is an area with not too many other rivers for that. The put-in is not too far from Canon City, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that.
Briefly about the general area: Go for a hike on the Stultz Trail, and Tanner Gulch is a brilliant site to stop by. This river is so good. Going for a hike on the Tanner Trail is always a fine adventure; you're sure to encounter some great folks from
Canon City here. During the summertime at Grape Creek temperatures are frequently in the 70's, and through the night it cools down to the 40's. The winter comes with highs in the 20's; night lows at Grape Creek during the winter typically fall into the-10's. Grape Creek gets very little precipitation; August is the wettest month with most rain; January meanwhile is the driest month.
