Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in Colorado are harder than the national norm, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that many of the sections here are not safe for beginners. The Bear Gulch to Canon City stretch of Grape Creek in Colorado is 15 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class IV+ section. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp. Great exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors will have you coming back for more. If you're coming from Canon City it's not a long drive at all
to the starting location, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. This stretch is long enough for an overnight trip if you take your time, so pack your sleeping bag. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but
you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking around here you won't find a large number of other spots. The nature scenery of Colorado and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water beats anything.
Briefly about the general area: This river is so good. Grape Creek is frequently a pretty arid site; the month of August is the wettest with most of the rain while January is ordinarily the driest month. You're sure to run into some wonderful people from Canon City here; the Stultz
Trail offers hiking at its best. Grape Creek is near Tanner Gulch which is beyond doubt worth stopping at, and hiking is a popular thing to do around Grape Creek; Tanner Trail is a pleasant local trail. At Grape Creek through the warm days of summer highs are in the 70's. When
the night sets in temperatures sink down into the 40's. Daytime highs during the winter are in the 20's, and nighttime lows in the-10's for Grape Creek.
