The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state are often tougher than in other states, so better not forget that many of the rivers here are not very forgiving. The nature scenery of Moffat County and the playfulness of the water attract people from near and far. The Gates of Lodore to Split Mountain Campgound section of Green River in Colorado is 44 miles long and it is classified as a class II-IV section by American Whitewater. The Uinta Mountains scenery is wonderful. Getting some good exercise and just being out on the river for a while
have a lot of people coming here. Now this is a pretty long section, so make sure you pack enough food along with your camping gear. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. This river system is full
of great paddling stretches, the Gates of Lodore to Split Mountain Campgound stretch is just one of them. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way in this general area you won't find many other paddling rivers. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp.
Briefly about the general area: The warmest time of the year brings highs in the 90's to Green River, and the overnight is a tad cooler of course, usually in the 50's. Daytime highs during the wintertime are in the 30's while Green River night low
temperatures through the winter are in the 10's. Green River is mostly a relatively arid location; most of the rain falls during May; the driest of the months is January. Don't leave Green River without first going for a hike along the Jones Hole Trail.
