This section of Green River in Colorado is 44 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class II-IV section. Now this is a pretty long section, so better bring your camping gear along. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. A good workout and just being out on the river for a while are great attractions for lots of people. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in Colorado are harder than the national
norm, so if you're not from around here don't forget that rivers here are less forgiving. There's camping available near Green River. The river winds through the Uinta Mountains and you get great scenery. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way in this
general area you won't find many other paddling places. The natural beauty of Colorado and the cool fresh water are reasons enough to come here and paddle. This river system is full of great paddling stretches, the Gates of Lodore to Split Mountain Campgound stretch is just one of them.
Briefly about the general area: Through the months of summer at Green River temperatures are ordinarily in the 90's. During the moonlight hours it's regularly in the 50's. Daytime highs during the wintertime are in the 30's while the cold winter nights at Green
River are in the 10's. Green River is pretty waterless commonly; May is the month that gets the most rain; January is the month with the least moisture. Why not take a refreshing hike along the Jones Hole Trail.
