The beautiful scenery of Montrose/Delta County and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream make the trip here worthwhile. The starting location is a short drive from Montrose, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside this state you might find the rivers here a bit more challenging, so you'd better keep in mind that many of the rivers here are |
not very forgiving. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. This stretch is long enough for an overnight trip if you take your time, so go
| ahead and pack your sleeping bag. The Chukar to North Fork section of Gunnison River is 13.5 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class III section. Getting some good exercise and just hanging out with mother nature are great reasons to come. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way there are not so many other good spots for that around here. There's camping available near Gunnison River.
