This stretch of Gunnison River - North Fork in Colorado is 8.8 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class III section. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in Colorado is often more difficult than elsewhere, so if you're not from around here don't forget that many of the rivers here are not very forgiving. A good workout and just hanging out with mother nature have a lot of people coming here. This stretch has has enough mileage, it's perfect for a one day trip. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way
around here you'll find a large number of good rivers. The Paonia Reservoir to below Somerset section is one of a few paddling sections in this river system. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem and if you make reservations
in advance you're all set. The natural beauty of Gunnison County and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water have people coming here. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground.
