The wonderful Colorado scenery and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. This section of Henson Creek in Hinsdale County is 6.7 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class IV-V section. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. The Above Nellie Creek to 1/2 mile from Lake City stretch is the only paddling stretch along Henson Creek. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. This
stretch is mid length, you can easily run it on an afternoon. Whitewater paddling here in the San Juan and Jemez Mountains is a great experience. A bit of exercise and spending some quality time in nature have a lot of people coming here. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and
some kayaking, either way this is an area with plenty of places for that. The average Colorado whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be a bit harder to master than those in other states, so if you're not from around here don't forget that many of the sections here are not safe for beginners.

lows at Henson Creek through the wintertime commonly sink into the 10's. Henson Creek is a location that is quite dry commonly; August is when you get the most rain here, and June on the other hand is the driest. At this river you will never have a bad time. It's always great
to visit Treasure Falls, and while you're here at Henson Creek, checking out Sugarloaf Rock is a must. This location, the San Juan and Jemez Mountains, has so much outdoors enjoyable stuff. Have a tremendous hiking adventure along the Ridge Stock Driveway, and if you fancy a little side spree, try Alpine Gulch.
