This section of Hermosa Creek in Colorado is 24 miles long and is a class IV-V section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. There are nice comfortable hotels here, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby. If you hurry you can run this section in a day but why not make it an overnighter, so go ahead and pack your camp stove. The average Colorado whitewater rafting or kayaking river     tends to be a bit harder to master than those in other states, so keep in mind that many of the rivers here are not very forgiving. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way this is an area with plenty of rivers for that. A bit of exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors are great reasons to come. The put-in location is a short drive from Durango, as you can see on the road map further down. The Hermosa Park to US 550 stretch is the only paddling stretch along Hermosa Creek. During the long summer days, highs mostly are in the 70's at Hermosa Creek. All through the dark hours of   summer temperatures descend down into the 30's.
