The scenic beauty of Eagle County and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. This stretch of Homestake Creek is 0.25 miles long and is a class V section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. The starting location is a short drive from Edwards, as you can see on the road map further down. There are some good hotels near the river, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. This is the only paddling section along Homestake Creek. For all you camping people there
are campgrounds nearby. This is an extremely short section so you'll have to walk back to the start over and over. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in Colorado is often more difficult than elsewhere, so keep in mind that quite a few of the sections here are not easy. Getting your
paddling muscles activated and just being out on the river for a while have people coming from far and near. When you're paddling down a Sawatch Range river like this one you always get great scenery along the way too. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way this area has a large number of paddling spots.
Briefly about the general area: Homestake Creek gets very little precipitation; July is the wettest month with most rain; February meanwhile is the driest month. Throughout the days of summer at Homestake Creek highs
are regularly in the 70's with nighttime lows in the 40's. Throughout the winter the highs are commonly in the 20's, and overnight lows at Homestake Creek all through the wintertime generally descend into the 0's. This place, the Sawatch Range, has so much outdoors enjoyable things. Take a hike on the Fall Creek Trail, and hiking along the Two Elk Trail is pleasant fun.
