CLASS V 3 miles
The County Road 103 bridge to Big South Campground section of Joe Wright Creek in Larimer County is 3 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class V section. The wonderful Colorado scenery and the playfulness of the water beats anything. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. This is a somewhat short section so it's not like you're gonna spend hours on the river in one stretch. The campgrounds here at Joe Wright Creek are pretty good. Whether you're
whitewater rafting or kayaking there are lots of good spots for that around here. The beauty of the Medicine Bow Mountains is a great plus for this river. There are no other sections to paddle along Joe Wright Creek than the County Road 103 bridge to Big South Campground section.
A good workout and a chance to spend some time outdoors are great reasons to come. If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside Colorado you might find the rivers here a bit more challenging, so you'd better keep in mind that many of the sections here are not safe for beginners.

Creek are in the 0's. So many fun things to do in the Medicine Bow Mountains, not enough time. Going for a hike along the Green Ridge Trail will let you absorb the natural beauty of this region. It is very dried up here at Joe Wright Creek generally; of all the months in a
year May is the one with the most rain, and January is the month with the least moisture. Have a wonderful hiking adventure along the Big South Trail, and don't leave Joe Wright Creek without first paying a visit to Poudre Falls.
