The wonderful Larimer County scenery and the cool fresh water attract people from near and far. The average whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be a bit harder to master in this state than those in other states, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that the rivers in this state are less manageable. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby.
You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, around here you'll find a large number of good places. Getting a good workout and spending some quality time in nature will make you glad you came. The beauty of the Medicine Bow Mountains is a great plus
for this river. The County Road 103 bridge to Big South Campground section is the only paddling section along Joe Wright Creek. This is a somewhat short section so no need to bring snacks. This stretch of Joe Wright Creek in Larimer County is 3 miles long and it is classified as a class V section by American Whitewater.
Briefly about the general area: For the period of the warm days of summer highs here at Joe Wright Creek reach the 70's. Through the dark hours of summer temperatures plunge down into the 30's. During the winter highs are in
the 20's with temperatures at Joe Wright Creek dipping down into the 0's during winter nights. The Big South Trail is a wonderful hiking trail near Joe Wright Creek, and Poudre Falls is a glorious local attraction. There's no way somebody can get bored here in the Medicine
Bow Mountains. There is a wonderful hiking trail next to Joe Wright Creek called the Green Ridge Trail. Joe Wright Creek is regularly a reasonably dried out place; most of the rain falls through May, and the driest of the months is January.
