The starting location is a short drive from Edwards, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. The sections for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in Colorado are often more challenging than in other states, so you'd better keep in mind that quite a few of the sections here are not easy. The scenic beauty of Lake County and the playfulness of the water are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking there are lots of good places for that around here. This is the only paddling
section along Lake Creek. Getting some good exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors have a lot of people coming here. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem and if you make reservations in advance you're all
set. This section is long enough to enjoy a good non stop paddle, it's perfect for a one day trip. The campgrounds here at Lake Creek are pretty good. The wild scenery of the Sawatch Range is great. The Graham Gulch to 1/4 mi east of Monitor Gulch section of Lake Creek in Lake County is 9 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class V+ section.
Briefly about the general area: For the period of the summer, highs frequently are in the 70's at Lake Creek with overnight lows in the 40's. High temperatures through the wintertime are
normally in the 30's; night lows in the 0's for Lake Creek. Hayden Gulch is a good place to look at, and there are great spots to discover along the Mount Elbert Trail. Not much rain falls here at Lake Creek; through the month of August you get the most rain around here while
February is the month with the least amount of precipitation. Yep, outdoors enjoyable things truly is abundant here in the Sawatch Range.
