Hinsdale/Gunnison
county,
Lake City Town Run section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.
CLASS III 3.6 miles
The beautiful scenery of Colorado and the water flowing gracefully down Lake Fork Gunnison River are reasons enough to come here and paddle. This stretch of Lake Fork Gunnison River in Hinsdale/Gunnison County is 3.6 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class III section. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way there are not so many other good rivers for that around here. This section is quite short so you'll have to walk back to the start over and over. There are a few other sections in this river
system that can be paddled as well. A good workout and just hanging out with mother nature will make you glad you came. When you're paddling down a San Juan Mountains river like this one you always get great scenery along the way too. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby
campground. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in Colorado is often tougher than elsewhere, so better not forget that a lot of the rivers here are not suitable for beginners.
