  Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in Colorado tend to be more challenging than the national average, so don't forget that rivers here are less forgiving. The nature scenery of Colorado and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream have people coming here. Whitewater paddling here in the San Juan and Jemez Mountains is a great experience. The starting point is not too far from Durango, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting
    or kayaking, either way in this general area you'll find lots of paddling spots. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. This section is quite short so you'll have to walk back to the start over and over. There are no other sections to paddle along
Lime Creek than the 1st Gorge section. A good workout and a chance to spend some time outdoors will make you glad you came. This section of Lime Creek is 3 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class V+ section of whitewater. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set.

Briefly about the general area:
Lime Creek gets very little rainfall; the wettest month of the year is mostly August, that's the one that rains the most,
 
and June meanwhile is the driest month. A pleasant site in the vicinity of Lime Creek is Coal Bank Pass, and hiking is a popular thing to do around Lime Creek; Highline Trail is a magnificent local trail.
These mountains rock, just look at all the cool things to do in the San Juan and Jemez Mountains. Summertime highs at Lime Creek frequently tend to be in the 70's. Summer nighttime lows descend down to the 40's. The winter comes with highs in the 30's with temperatures at Lime Creek dipping down into the 0's during winter nights.
