1st Gorge section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.
CLASS V+ 3 miles
The starting location is a reasonable drive from Durango, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. The beautiful scenery of -blank- County and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream beats anything. The 1st Gorge section of Lime Creek in -blank- County is 3 miles long and has been rated as a class V+ section by American Whitewater. The beautiful San Juan Mountains scenery is an added bonus. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. This stretch is short so it's not like you're gonna
spend hours on the river in one stretch. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in Colorado tend to be more challenging than the national average, so don't forget that many of the rivers here are not very forgiving. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive
a short distance then no problem but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this is an area with plenty of places for that. Lime Creek doesn't have a lot of paddling sections, the 1st Gorge section is the only one. Getting your paddling muscles activated and just being out on the river for a while are great attractions for lots of people.
