1st Gorge section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.
CLASS V+ 3 miles
This stretch of Lime Creek is 3 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class V+ section of whitewater. The scenic beauty of unknown County and the playfulness of the water will make you feel great. The put-in location is a short drive from Durango, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. The sections for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in Colorado are often more challenging than in other states, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that quite a few of the sections here are not easy. Great exercise and
just hanging out with mother nature will make you glad you came. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way around here you'll find a large number of good rivers. Lime Creek doesn't have a lot of paddling stretches, the 1st Gorge
stretch is the only one. This is a pretty short section so you'd better be prepared to walk your kayak back to put-in a few times. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. Whitewater paddling here in the San Juan and Jemez Mountains is a great experience. The campgrounds here at Lime Creek are pretty good.
