Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in this state tend to be more challenging than the national average, so don't forget that the rivers in this state are less manageable. The Upper Piedra Campground to 1st Fork Bridge stretch of Piedra River is 12 miles long and is a class II-IV section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp. There aren’t any hotels right
nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. The river winds through the San Juan Mountains and you get great scenery. This section has enough mileage for an overnight trip, so
pack your camping stuff. A bit of exercise and just hanging out with mother nature are great attractions for lots of people. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking there are lots of good places for that around here. The Upper Piedra Campground to 1st Fork Bridge stretch is one of a few paddling stretches in this river system.
