The wonderful Eagle County scenery and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water make the trip here worthwhile. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in Colorado are harder than the national norm, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that lots of rivers here are not for beginners. The Piney Crossing to State Bridge section of Piney River in Eagle County is 19 miles long and is a class V+ section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. There are no other stretches to paddle along Piney River than the Piney Crossing to State Bridge stretch.
Getting a good workout and spending some quality time in nature have a lot of people coming here. This section is long enough for an overnight trip if you take your time, so pack your camp stove. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance
then no problem but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. The Park Range scenery is wonderful. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking around here you'll find a large number of good rivers. The put-in location is a reasonable drive from Edwards, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that.
Briefly about the general area: Summer brings highs in the 70's to Piney River, and the night is a tad cooler of course, ordinarily in the 40's. The winter
brings highs down to the 30's while the cold winter nights at Piney River are in the 0's. A short tour to Split Trough Spring is always worthwhile; Cabin Gulch is undeniably a brilliant place to take a look at. So many cool things to do here in the Park Range, too brilliant
to be true. A visit to Piney River wouldn't be complete without taking a look at Kayser Spring. Piney River gets very little rainfall; July is the month that gets the most rain, and February meanwhile is the driest month.
