The wonderful Colorado scenery and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream make the trip here worthwhile. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way this area has a large number of paddling spots. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in Colorado are harder than the national norm, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that many of     the rivers here are not very forgiving. Whitewater paddling here in the San Juan and Jemez Mountains is a great experience. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. This stretch is mid length, it's perfect for a one day trip. Getting some good exercise and spending some quality time in nature are great attractions for lots of people. Rio Blanco doesn't have a lot of paddling stretches, the Highway 84 to San Juan River stretch is the only one. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. Briefly about the general area: For the period of the summertime months highs here at Rio Blanco get into the 80's, and through summer nights temperatures are in the 40's. For the period of the winter highs are in the 30's, and   overnight lows throughout the winter for Rio Blanco tend to be in the 0's. A wonderful location to stop at near Rio Blanco is Frio Canyon. Not much precipitation falls here at Rio Blanco; the month of August is the wettest with most of the rain while June is typically the driest month.
