The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. On this section you do get some distance, good for a one day paddling trip. The natural beauty of Colorado and the playfulness of the water beats anything. The wild scenery of the San Juan Mountains is great. The average Colorado whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be harder to run than those in other     states, so don't forget that lots of rivers here are not for beginners. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way there are lots of good spots for that around here. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp. Rio Blanco doesn't have a lot of paddling sections, the Highway 84 to San Juan River section is the only one. Getting some good exercise and spending some quality time in nature have people coming from far and near. Briefly about the general area: A brilliant place right next door to Rio Blanco is Frio Canyon. It is very dry here at Rio Blanco frequently; the month with most of the rain is August, and June meanwhile is the driest month. All through the summertime at Rio Blanco temperatures are usually in the 80's while overnight lows are regularly in the 40's.
