If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside Colorado you might find the rivers here a bit more challenging, so you'd better keep in mind that a large number of rivers in this state are not easy. This stretch of Roaring Fork in Pitkin County is 6.2 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class III section. A good workout and just being out on the river for a while have people coming from far and near. is just one of many. If you're coming from Edwards it's not a long drive at all to the put-in location, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. The campgrounds here at Roaring Fork are pretty good. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and
some kayaking, either way this is an area with plenty of spots for that. The wild scenery of the Sawatch Range is great. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. On this section you do get some distance, it's good length for a morning trip. The wonderful Pitkin County scenery and the cool fresh water have people coming here.
Briefly about the general area: The warmest time of the year brings highs in the
80's to Roaring Fork, and through the night it cools down to the 50's. The wintertime brings highs down to the 30's, and overnight lows at Roaring Fork throughout the winter usually dip into the 0's. Cerise Gulch is a great site to spend some time at. Roaring Fork is pretty dried up mostly; the month with most of the rain is April, and June is when it's the driest.
