If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside Colorado you might find the rivers here a bit more challenging, so you'd better keep in mind that rivers here are not as easy as elsewhere. This section of Roaring Fork in Colorado is 4.5 miles long and it is classified as a class IV-V section by American Whitewater. The starting point is not too far from Edwards, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. This stretch is mid length, it's perfect for a one day trip. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby
campground. The nature scenery of Pitkin County and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water attract people from near and far. There are plenty of hotels here if you want to spend a night, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. Great exercise and just being out
on the river for a while will have you coming back for more. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking there are lots of good spots for that around here. There are plenty of other sections in this river system that can be paddled as well.
Briefly about the general area: A great location in close proximity to Roaring Fork is Trentaz Gulch, and Buttermilk is a very popular ski area in the vicinity. Roaring Fork gets very little precipitation; the wettest month of the year is ordinarily April, that's the one that rains the most while June is the
month with the least amount of precipitation. During the summertime months highs here at Roaring Fork get into the 80's. Throughout the moonlight hours it's ordinarily in the 40's. The cold days of the wintertime come with highs in the 30's while Roaring Fork overnight low temperatures through the wintertime are in the 0's.
