Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in this state tend to be more challenging than the national average, so keep in mind that many runs in this state are not easy. This is not the only paddling section in this river system, there are others too. This stretch of Roaring Fork in Colorado is 2 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class IV+ section. This is a somewhat short section so it's not like you're
gonna spend hours on the river in one stretch. The beautiful scenery of Pitkin County and the cool fresh water make the trip here worthwhile. Getting your paddling muscles activated and just being out on the river for a while are great attractions for lots of people. And of course,
there are campgrounds nearby. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking there are lots of good rivers for that around here.
Briefly about the general area: A journey to Slaughterhouse Gulch is always fun, and the snow is great at Aspen Mountain. The warmest time of the year brings highs in the 80's to Roaring Fork, and during the night it cools down to the 40's. The winter comes with highs in the 30's with temperatures at Roaring Fork dipping down into the 0's during winter nights. Not much precipitation falls here at Roaring Fork; July is the wettest month with most rain while February is typically the driest month.
