If you're coming from Edwards it's not a long drive at all to the put-in location, as you can see on the road map further down. The natural beauty of Colorado and the cool fresh water are reasons enough to come here and paddle. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this area has a large number of paddling places. Getting your paddling muscles activated and a chance to spend some time outdoors are sure to keep you coming back for more. long and is according to American Whitewater a class V+ section of whitewater. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in Colorado are harder than the national norm, so if you're not from around here don't forget that
rivers here are less forgiving. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. This stretch has has enough mileage, you can easily run it on an afternoon. The river winds through the Park Range and you get great scenery. Rock Creek doesn't have a lot of paddling sections, the Shoe and Stocking Creek Trailhead to Bridge below Quarry section is the only one.
Briefly about the general area: At Rock Creek you don’t see much precipitation; throughout July this area sees the
most rain, and the driest month is February. Hiking along the Tepee Creek Trail is wonderful fun. At Rock Creek throughout the summertime highs are in the 70's. All through the dark hours of summer temperatures drop down into the 40's. For the period of the winter highs are ordinarily in the 30's; nighttime lows in the 0's for Rock Creek.
