Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in Colorado tend to be more challenging than the national average, so you'd better keep
in mind that a lot of the rivers here are not suitable for beginners. This section of San Juan River in Archuleta County is 13.4 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class II-III section. The river winds through the San Juan and Jemez Mountains and you get great
scenery. The scenic beauty of Archuleta County and the water flowing gracefully down San Juan River are reasons enough to come here and paddle. This section is long enough for an overnight trip if you take your time, so go ahead and pack your sleeping bag. Getting a good workout and just being out on the river for a while will have you coming back for more. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way there are lots of good places for that around here. The Pagosa to Trujillo Road stretch is one of a few paddling
stretches in this river system. There's camping available near San Juan River. No shortage of good hotels, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination.
