This section of San Juan River in Archuleta County is 1 miles long and has been rated as a class II-III section by American Whitewater. The wonderful Colorado scenery and the water flowing gracefully down San Juan River are reasons enough to come here and paddle. The Pagosa Springs Town Run stretch is one of a few paddling stretches in this river system. This section is very short so you'd better be prepared to walk your kayak back to put-in a few times. If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside Colorado you might find the rivers here a bit more
challenging, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that a lot of the rivers here are not suitable for beginners. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground. No need to look hard for hotels, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick.
Whitewater paddling here in the San Juan and Jemez Mountains is a great experience. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, this is an area with plenty of spots for that. Getting a good workout and just hanging out with mother nature have people coming from far and near.

summer days, highs typically are in the 80's at San Juan River. For the period of the dark hours of summer temperatures descend down into the 40's. Daytime highs throughout the winter are in the 30's; through the dark hours in the winter at San Juan River temperatures descend to
the 0's. Not much rainfall falls here at San Juan River; most of the rain falls during August; the driest month of the year is June. It's always good to explore Pagosa Springs, and Horse Gulch is another perfect location to stop by close by.
