Colorado whitewater - San Miguel River, Uncompahgre Plateau Mountains, San Miguel/ Montrose County
San Miguel/ Montrose
county,
BB 36 Road to Green Truss Bridge section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.
CLASS III 5.2 miles
The nature scenery of Colorado and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream attract people from near and far. This section of San Miguel River is 5.2 miles long and is a class III section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. The Uncompahgre Plateau Mountains scenery is wonderful. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way in this general area you won't find many other paddling places. This is a pretty decent length section, you can easily run it on an afternoon. A good workout and just hanging out
with mother nature will have you coming back for more. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in this state tend to be more challenging
than the national average, so better not forget that many runs in this state are not easy. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. The starting point is not too far from Montrose, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. This is one of a small number of paddling sections in this river system, there are a few others too.
Briefly about the general area: But wait, there's more amusing stuff to do in the Uncompahgre Plateau Mountains. San Miguel River is right by the Telephone
Draw Trail. San Miguel River is usually a relatively dehydrated place; the wettest month of the year is ordinarily October, that's the one that rains the most while June is the month with the least amount of precipitation. Summertime brings highs in the 90's to San Miguel River,
and during the night it cools down to the 50's. Highs all through the winter are usually in the 30's, and through the dark hours in the winter at San Miguel River temperatures sink to the 10's. Take a hike on the Ray Trail, and while you're here why not pop by Telephone Draw.
