CLASS III 16 miles
The beautiful scenery of Colorado and the playfulness of the water will make you feel great. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state is often more difficult than elsewhere, so keep in mind that a lot of the rivers here are not suitable for beginners. The Norwood Bridge to Green Truss Bridge section of San Miguel River in San Miguel/ Montrose County is 16 miles long and it is classified as a class III section by American Whitewater. The starting location is a reasonable drive from Montrose, as you can see on the road map further down. You can enjoy
this stretch more if you take your time, so go ahead and pack your camp stove. Getting your paddling muscles activated and a chance to spend some time outdoors will make you glad you came. The beauty of the Uncompahgre Plateau Mountains is a great plus for this river. And of course,
there are campgrounds nearby. There are some good stretches to paddle in this river system, the Norwood Bridge to Green Truss Bridge stretch is one of them. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking there are not so many other good places for that around here. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination.
