The starting point is not too far from Montrose, as you can see on the road map further down. The nature scenery of San Miguel/ Montrose County and the water flowing gracefully down San Miguel River attract people from near and far. Plateau Mountains is great. If you'll be staying in a hotel you're in luck, lodging is available very near the river, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. This is a pretty decent length section, you can easily run it on an afternoon. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. This is one of a small number of paddling sections in this river system, there are a few others too.
