The Silverpick Road to Fall Creek Road stretch of San Miguel River is 7.3 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class III section of whitewater. Great exercise and just hanging out with mother nature are sure to keep you coming back for more. The average whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be a bit harder to master in this state than those in other states, so you'd better keep in mind that many of the sections
here are not safe for beginners. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, this area has a large number of paddling spots. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby. The Silverpick Road to Fall Creek Road section is one of a few paddling
sections in this river system. The wild scenery of the Uncompahgre Plateau Mountains is great. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. The wonderful San Miguel/ Montrose County scenery and the water flowing gracefully down San Miguel River will make you feel great. This stretch has has enough mileage, suitable for an afternoon trip.
Briefly about the general area: Having a delightful time in the Uncompahgre Plateau Mountains is uncomplicated. San Miguel River is
frequently a reasonably arid place; July is when you get the most rain here; June is when it's the driest. There is a perfect hiking trail in close proximity to San Miguel River called the Alder Creek Trail, and going for a hike on the Wilson Mesa Trail is always a delightful
adventure. Summertime highs at San Miguel River commonly tend to be in the 80's with overnight lows in the 40's. Highs all through the winter are mostly in the 30's, and overnight lows at San Miguel River through the wintertime usually plunge into the 0's.
