  If you're coming from Canon City it's not a long drive at all to the put-in location, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in Colorado is often more difficult than elsewhere, so you'd better keep in mind that the rivers in this state are less manageable. The natural beauty of Jefferson County and the cool fresh water will make you feel great. This stretch of South Platte
    River is 8 miles long and is a class III-V(V+) section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. Getting your paddling muscles activated and a chance to spend some time outdoors are great reasons to come. The river
winds through the Front Range and you get great scenery. There arenít any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. This is not the only paddling stretch in this river system, there are others too. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way around here you'll find a large number of good places. On this  
section you do get some distance, you can easily run it on an afternoon. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp.

Briefly about the general area:
Hiking along the Hankins Trail is pleasant fun; Florissant Fossil Beds National Monument is one of the destinations that are good to take a look at close by. Man, is there a load of exciting stuff to do in the Front Range. Take a hike on the Longwater Trail, and Spinney State Park is a fine place. This river has so much to offer. South Platte River is not far at all from Lake George, and Eleven Mile State Park is a good location to pop by.
