The sections for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in Colorado are often more challenging than in other states, so better not forget that many of the sections here are not safe for beginners. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way this is an area with not too many other spots for that. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, and if you make reservations in     advance you're all set. The beautiful scenery of Jefferson County and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. There's camping available near South Platte River. The river winds through the Front Range and you get great scenery. On this section you do get some distance, it's perfect for a one day trip. Getting some good exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors have a lot of people coming here. There are so many sections to paddle in this river system, the Eleven Mile Reservoir to Lake George section is just one of many. Briefly about the general area: Around South Platte River you don’t get a lot of precipitation; August is the wettest month with most rain while January is regularly the driest month. A great place in the vicinity of South Platte River   is Messenger Gulch.
