Colorado whitewater - South Platte River, Front Range, Park County Park county, Lake George to Cheesman Reservoir section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.   CLASS V+     7.3 miles   This stretch of South Platte River is 7.3 miles long and has been rated as a class V+ section by American Whitewater. The wonderful Colorado scenery and the water flowing gracefully down South Platte River beats anything. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp. A bit of exercise and spending some quality time in nature are sure to keep you coming back for more. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in Colorado are harder than the national norm, so you'd better keep in mind that rivers here are less forgiving. Whether you're whitewater     rafting or kayaking there are not so many other good places for that around here. There are plenty of other sections in this river system that can be paddled as well. This stretch has has enough mileage, good for a one day paddling trip. The wild scenery of the Front Range is great. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. Briefly about the general area: There is a magnificent hiking trail near South Platte River called the Longwater Trail, and Hackett Gulch is around here, and is a great place. At South Platte River you don’t see much rainfall; throughout July this area sees the most rain; January is the month with the least moisture. For the period of the summertime here at South Platte River, high temperatures   regularly get into the 70's. Once the sun is down it descends down to the 40's. During the winter highs are in the 30's while South Platte River overnight low temperatures during the wintertime are in the 0's.
