And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. The beautiful Front Range scenery is an added bonus. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking there are lots of good rivers for that around here.     This section is long enough for an overnight trip if you take your time, so pack your camping stuff. This is not the only paddling stretch in this river system, there are others too. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in Colorado tend to be more challenging than the national average, so keep in mind that rivers here are less forgiving. The Deckers to confluence with North Fork stretch of South Platte River in Jefferson/ Douglas County is 12 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class I-III section. Briefly about the general area: South Platte River gets very little precipitation; through the month of May you get the most rain   around here, and January on the other hand is the driest. Near South Platte River you discover Dell Gulch which is a delightful site to go to. Summertime highs at South Platte River mostly tend to be in the 80's. Once the sun is down it plunges down to the 40's. For the period of the winter highs are in the 40's, and during the dark hours in the winter at South Platte River temperatures drop to the 0's.
