The natural beauty of Colorado and the cool fresh water have people coming here. The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in Colorado are often tougher than in other states, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that quite a few of the sections here are not easy. The Confluence to Strontia Springs Reservoir section is one of many paddling sections in this river system. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination.
This section of South Platte River is 1 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class III-IV section of whitewater. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, in this general area you'll find lots of paddling rivers. For all you camping
people there are campgrounds nearby. This is an extremely short section so you'll have to walk back to the start over and over. Getting a good workout and just being out on the river for a while are sure to keep you coming back for more. The wild scenery of the Front Range is great. The put-in is not too far from Denver-Aurora, as you can see on the road map further down.
Briefly about the general area: Not enough hours in a day to enjoy the Front Range. You need to go to Eagle Rock while you're here at South Platte River. South Platte River gets
very little rainfall; of all the months in a year May is the one with the most rain, and January on the other hand is the driest. For the period of the summer at South Platte River highs are usually in the 80's. For the period of the dark hours of summer temperatures fall down
into the 40's. Throughout the wintertime highs are frequently in the 40's; overnight lows through the winter for South Platte River tend to be in the 0's. Since you're here at South Platte River why not check out Russell Gulch, and Strontia Spring is a wonderful local attraction.
