The scenic beauty of Colorado and the playfulness of the water are reasons enough to come here and paddle. If you're coming from Denver-Aurora it's not a long drive at all to the put-in location, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. If you've been out of state whitewater rafting and kayaking you might find the rivers here more demanding, so keep in mind that many runs in this state are not easy. The campgrounds here at South Platte River are pretty good. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or
both, doesn't matter, this area has a large number of paddling places. Getting a good workout and a chance to spend some time outdoors will make you glad you came. This section of South Platte River in Colorado is 1 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to
be a class III-IV section. This is a very short stretch so you'd better be prepared to walk your kayak back to put-in a few times. Whitewater paddling here in the Front Range is a great experience. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. This river system is full of great paddling sections, the Confluence to Strontia Springs Reservoir section is just one of them.

River without first checking out Eagle Rock, and Strontia Spring is a delightful local attraction. Summer brings highs in the 80's to South Platte River, and through the night it cools down to the 40's. During the wintertime this place gets highs in the 40's with temperatures at
South Platte River dipping down into the 0's throughout winter nights. South Platte River is pretty dry typically; May is the month that gets the most rain while January is the month with the least amount of precipitation. Yeah, come up here to the Front Range for a delightful time. A glorious spot in close proximity to South Platte River is Russell Gulch.
