Whitewater rafting and kayaking in Colorado is often more difficult than elsewhere, so if you're not from around here don't forget that many of the rivers here are not very forgiving. The campgrounds here at South Platte River are pretty good. This is a very short stretch so better bring some good walking shoes. No shortage of good hotels, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. There are no other     sections to paddle along South Platte River than the Union Chutes section. Getting your paddling muscles activated and just hanging out with mother nature have people coming from far and near. Briefly about the general area: South Platte River is generally a relatively dehydrated location; all through the month of May you get the most rain around here, and the driest month is January. All through the summer at South Platte River temperatures are generally in the 80's. Once the sun is down it plunges down to the 50's.
