If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside Colorado you might find the rivers here a bit more challenging, so keep in mind that a large number of rivers in this state are not easy. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground. If you're coming from Denver-Aurora it's not a long drive at all to the put-in location, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. There are nice comfortable hotels     here, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. This stretch is very short so it's not like you're gonna spend hours on the river in one stretch. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way this area has a large number of paddling rivers. There are plenty of other sections in this river system that can be paddled as well. The Confluence of Cherry Creek and South Platte stretch of South Platte River is 0.5 miles long and is a class II-III section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. Briefly about the general area: Summertime brings highs in the 80's to South Platte River. For the period of the moonlight hours it's generally in the 50's. For the duration of the wintertime this place gets highs in the 40's, and after the sun is down during   the wintertime temperatures at South Platte River drop into the 10's. Sanderson Gulch is a magnificent location to take a look at close to South Platte River. It is very dehydrated here at South Platte River usually; during May this area sees the most rain, and January is when it's the driest.
