The put-in is not too far from Greeley, as you can see on the road map further down. The wonderful Adams / Weld County scenery and the playfulness of the water are reasons enough to come here and paddle. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in Colorado is often tougher than elsewhere, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that rivers here are not as easy as elsewhere. A bit of exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors are great reasons |
to come. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby. There are nice comfortable hotels here, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or
| kayaking there are not so many other good rivers for that around here. This is a pretty decent length section, good for a one day paddling trip. There are so many sections to paddle in this river system, the Brighton City Park to Fort Lupton section is just one of many.
Briefly about the general area: You're sure to run into some cheerful people from Fort Lupton here, and Barr Lake State Park is a pretty place any time of year. | |
|
Barbour Ponds State Park is a good place to stop at. It is very dry here at South Platte River generally. The month of May is the wettest with most of the rain, and the driest of the months is January. Summer at South Platte
River arrives with high temperatures in the 80's while night lows are typically in the 50's. For the duration of the winter the highs are frequently in the 40's, and through the dark hours in the wintertime at South Platte River temperatures fall to the 10's.
