This section of Sweetwater Creek in Colorado is 4.5 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class III-IV section of whitewater. If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside this state you might find the rivers here a bit more challenging, so don't forget that a large number of rivers in this state are not easy. The wonderful Colorado scenery and the water flowing gracefully down Sweetwater Creek have people coming here. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, in this general area you'll find lots
of paddling spots. Getting some good exercise and just hanging out with mother nature will have you coming back for more. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill
up quick. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. This stretch has has enough mileage, good for a one day paddling trip.
Briefly about the general area: All through the warm months at Sweetwater Creek highs are mostly in the 80's. Throughout the dark hours of summer temperatures sink down into the 50's. Daytime highs during the winter are in the 30's while the cold winter nights at Sweetwater Creek are in the 0's. You have to absolutely take a look at Hells Gate while you're here at Sweetwater Creek, and Lucky Gulch is also a tremendous location
to look at. At Sweetwater Creek you don’t see much rainfall; of all the months in a year March is the one with the most rain, and June on the other hand is the driest.
