  The Taylor Park Reservoir to Almont section of Taylor River in Gunnison County is 18 miles long and is a class II-IV section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in Colorado are harder than the national norm, so if you're not from around here don't forget that a lot of the rivers here are not suitable for beginners. This is the only paddling stretch along Taylor River. This stretch has enough mileage for an overnight trip, so pack your sleeping bag. The nature scenery of Gunnison County and the water flowing
    gracefully down Taylor River are reasons enough to come here and paddle. Getting some good exercise and spending some quality time in nature have a lot of people coming here. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem and
if you make reservations in advance you're all set. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking in this general area you'll find lots of paddling places.

Briefly about the general area:
All through the days of summer, highs typically are in the 70's at Taylor River. Summer night lows dip down to the 30's. Daytime highs throughout the wintertime are in the 20's, and during the dark hours in the wintertime at Taylor River temperatures fall to the-10's. There's brilliant hiking along the Onemile Cattle
 
Trail, and a great site to stop at is Big Gulch.
At Taylor River you don’t see much rain; December is the wettest month with most snow, and the driest month of the year is June. Hiking is a popular thing to do around Taylor River; Summerville Trail is a great local trail.
