Colorado whitewater - Taylor River, Gunnison County Gunnison county, Taylor Park Reservoir to Almont section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.   CLASS II-IV     18 miles   The beautiful scenery of Colorado and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water make the trip here worthwhile. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way there are lots of good places for that around here. Getting your paddling muscles activated and spending some quality time in nature are great reasons to come. This stretch of Taylor River in Gunnison County is 18 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class II-IV section of whitewater. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but if you     don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground. This section is long enough for an overnight trip if you take your time, so why not pack your camp stove too. This is the only paddling section along Taylor River. Briefly about the general area: On a wonderful day at Taylor River you can take a hike along the Onemile Cattle Trail, and if you wish for a little side tour, try Big Gulch. At Taylor River you don’t see much rainfall; most of the snow falls during December; June on the other hand is the driest. There is a great hiking trail near Taylor River called the Summerville Trail. At Taylor River throughout the summertime months highs are in the 70's, and during the night it cools down to the 30's.
