CLASS III-V 4.2 miles
This section of Tenmile Creek is 4.2 miles long and has been rated as a class III-V section by American Whitewater. The beautiful scenery of Colorado and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water make the trip here worthwhile. The starting location is a reasonable drive from Silverthorne, as you can see on the road map further down. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way around here you'll find a large number of good spots. There are nice comfortable hotels here,
but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. Tenmile Creek doesn't have a lot of paddling sections, the Close to Copper Mountain Ski Area to Dillon Reservoir section is the only one. The sections for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in Colorado
are often more challenging than in other states, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that rivers here are not as easy as elsewhere. This stretch is mid length, you can easily run it on an afternoon.
Briefly about the general area: Tenmile Creek is regularly a rather dry spot; July is when you get the most rain here; February meanwhile is the driest month. This river is a wonderful place to visit. The Miners Creek Trail is a glorious hiking trail near Tenmile Creek, and the skiing at Copper Mountain is nice. Summer brings highs in
the 70's to Tenmile Creek while overnight lows are commonly in the 40's. For the period of the wintertime highs are mostly in the 20's with temperatures at Tenmile Creek dipping down into the 0's during winter nights. There is a brilliant hiking trail next to Tenmile Creek called the Lily Pad Lake Trail, and a tour to nearby Frisco Bay is very relaxing.
