The wonderful Ouray County scenery and the water flowing gracefully down Uncompahgre River will make you feel great. The Uncompahgre Plateau Mountains scenery is wonderful. Getting some good exercise and just hanging out with mother nature will have you coming back for more. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking there are not so many other good rivers for that around here. No need to look hard for hotels, and if you make reservations in advance     you're all set. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp. The Ouray to KOA campground stretch is the only paddling stretch along Uncompahgre River. If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside this state you might find the rivers here a bit more challenging, so better not forget that many of the rivers here are not very forgiving. This is a somewhat short section so better bring some good walking shoes. The Ouray to KOA campground section of Uncompahgre River in Colorado is 2.2 miles long and is a class V+ section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. Briefly about the general area: If you're here, you might as well stop at Dolores Canyon. Uncompahgre River is frequently a rather dried up site; the month of October is the wettest with most of the rain, and February is when it's the driest.   Throughout the summer here at Uncompahgre River, high temperatures generally get into the 90's. Summer night lows fall down to the 50's. The winter comes with highs in the 30's, and all through the dark hours in the winter at Uncompahgre River temperatures plunge to the 10's.
