The nature scenery of Colorado and the playfulness of the water will make you feel great. Whitewater paddling here in the San Juan and Jemez Mountains is a great experience. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this is an area with plenty of rivers for that. The 1 mile above Vallecito Campground stretch of Vallecito Creek is 1 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class V+ section.     There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. The average Colorado whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be harder to run than those in other states, so keep in mind that a lot of the rivers here are not suitable for beginners. The 1 mile above Vallecito Campground stretch is the only paddling stretch along Vallecito Creek. A good workout and just hanging out with mother nature are great attractions for lots of people. This is a very short section so you'd better be prepared to walk your kayak back to put-in a few times. Briefly about the general area: Vallecito Creek is pretty dehydrated commonly; August is the month that gets the most rain, and June is the month with the   least moisture. During the months of summer highs here at Vallecito Creek get into the 70's, and during the night it cools down to the 40's. Through the wintertime this place gets highs in the 30's, and winter nights come with lows in the 0's to Vallecito Creek.
