If you've been out of state whitewater rafting and kayaking you might find the rivers here more demanding, so you'd better keep in mind that many of the rivers here are not very forgiving. This section of Vallecito Creek in La Plata County is 1 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class V+ section. The scenic beauty of Colorado and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream will make you feel great. You     might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way this is an area with plenty of spots for that. The beautiful San Juan and Jemez Mountains scenery is an added bonus. This is an extremely short stretch so no need to bring snacks. There's camping available near Vallecito Creek. Getting your paddling muscles activated and a chance to spend some time outdoors will make you glad you came. The 1 mile above Vallecito Campground section is the only paddling section along Vallecito Creek.
