The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in Colorado are often tougher than in other states, so better not forget that many of the sections here are not safe for beginners. This stretch of White River - South Fork is 10 miles long and has been rated as a class III-IV section by American Whitewater. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way this area has a pretty small number of paddling rivers. The beautiful scenery of Rio Blanco County and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water are reasons enough to come here
and paddle. This stretch is long enough for an overnight trip if you take your time, so pack your camp stove. Getting a good workout and just being out on the river for a while will have you coming back for more. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. There are some good
sections to paddle in this river system, the National Forest Campground to North Fork section is one of them. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car.
