The nature scenery of Grand County and the water flowing gracefully down Willow Creek make the trip here worthwhile. The National Forest Campground to Reservoir section of Willow Creek in Grand County is 6 miles long and it is classified as a class II section by American Whitewater. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground. A bit of exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors are great attractions for lots of people. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this area has a large number of paddling rivers. This section is
long enough to enjoy a good non stop paddle, it's perfect for a one day trip. If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside Colorado you might find the rivers here a bit more challenging, so if you're not from around here don't forget that lots of rivers here are not for
beginners. The starting location is a short drive from Silverthorne, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. The beautiful Park Range scenery is an added bonus. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. The National Forest Campground to Reservoir section is the only paddling section along Willow Creek.
Briefly about the general area: It is very arid here at Willow Creek usually; through August this area sees the
most rain, and February is when it's the driest. For the period of the warm days of summer at Willow Creek highs are frequently in the 80's. For the period of the moonlight hours it's usually in the 40's. For the period of the winter highs are in the 20's with temperatures at Willow Creek dipping down into the-10's throughout winter nights.
